I have been using the Suunto Compass for a number of years now. Working with our younger folk on Ten Tors, CCF and D of E. The larger magnifying circle is a great feature along with the simple plate layout and uncluttered. Nearly all the students I work with prefer the Suunto over the Silva. Being Ex Military thats a hard thing to admit to but keeping things simple and using equipment that simply just works well is key. I would highly recommend the Suunto over the Silva. It would be nice to have the 1:40,000 markings but thats not a game changer as the maps are too expensive for most educational establishment.
